No attentive eye of the inhabitant or visitor of Spišská Nová Ves will miss the abandoned building of the old railway water tank when walking around the bus and railway station. In the past, the water reservoir was used to supply water to railway steam locomotives. It is a precious technical monument, but it has not been used for 50 years and is falling into disrepair. This should soon be changed by the ALTIS Interiér project, which aims to revitalize the water tank and the entire surrounding area into a new Multifunctional Centre VODOJEM. What will you be able to find here?
A new look for the reservoir that will underline its historical significance
After a sensitive reconstruction, the reservoir object itself will be transformed into a unique space containing a gallery of local artists, a permanent exposition of the history of railways and a lookout with a presentation of the natural and historical beauty of the town of Spišská Nová Ves and the Spiš region. In addition, a sports and recreational facility for local residents and tourists will be created in the tower area. The project will also include the construction of various waterproofing measures, including greenery.
Attraction for tourists
The multifunctional centre will bring a new concept to the city with a positive impact on the development of tourism, creating a space for visitors to stay all day in the city and the region. We believe that ALTIS Interiér, which has become a new member of the OOCR Slovenský raj & Spiš since November 2024, will succeed in breathing new life into this technical monument and bringing it to an attractive use underlining its historical significance and purpose, both for locals and tourists. We will keep you informed of all the latest news about the project.
