The Hornád gorge is one of the most popular hiking trails in the Slovak Paradise. You can admire the beauty of nature walking along the Hornád River. If there is enough water, you can float down the river on a boat. In winter we recommend skating on the frozen surface. Read more in the article.
Hornád Passage on foot
The transition almost 12 kilometres long scenic canyon is one of the most attractive hikes in the Slovak Paradise. The Hornád Gornád Breakthrough connects the tourist centres Podlesok, Letanovský mlyn and Čingov. You will be accompanied by a blue-marked nature trail with several sections equipped with chain bridges, wooden ladders or adrenaline climbs around the rocks directly over the Hornád River.
The hike is recommended for reasonably fit hikers with appropriate hiking equipment (at least sturdy shoes). Resistance to fear of heights is a must. On the way you can refresh yourself in the buffet At the Letanovský mill (May – Sep: daily: 10:00 – 18:00).
Try rafting on the Hornád River
In 2016, in addition to Ferrata Kyseľ, another novelty was introduced in the Slovak Paradise – rafting the Hornád River. You can float the beautiful stretch leading through the area with the highest nature protection level 5 every year. 1 May to 31 October . Rafting is only possible when the river level is between 70 and 110 centimetres (you can check the current status here). A maximum of 70 one- to two-seater vessels can navigate the stretch daily.
