The offer of cafés in the metropolis of the central Spiš region, Spišská Nová Ves, has grown by one really special one since July 2023. In the Domovina Café and Antique Shop on Štefánikov Square 10 (atrium of the House of Services) you will be served excellent coffee and cakes by smiling, disabled clients of the Domovina Social Services Home n.o. from Hodkovice. Despite their handicap, they are trying to integrate into society and the work process. They get the feeling that they are also important and that they can help create this world.
The café is also an antique shop, so in addition to tasting goodies at great prices, you can also immerse yourself in the stories of the many interesting books that are available to visitors of the café. They don’t forget about the youngest visitors either, children’s books along with lots of toys can be found in the nice children’s corner. In addition, directly in the café you can buy a lot of nice, handmade crafts made by the clients of DSS Domovina – mugs, ceramic bowls, stamps, magnets, ornaments, decorations or jewellery.
Home of Social Services Domovina, n.o. provides social services in a year-round residential form to people who are dependent on the help of other persons due to adverse health conditions or severe disabilities. Their mission is to create a meaningful, dignified and full life for the recipients of social services with support for independence and inclusion in society. In addition to medical and therapeutic procedures for their disabled clients, they prepare a number of cultural events throughout the year, involve them in social tourism activities in the historical mansion of the noble Csáky family, where the facility is located, in the care of a mini zoo of domestic animals, a herb garden, an orchard, greenhouses and a garden in the facility’s grounds.
